Design and supervision of construction of bridges in Tolo Highway linking Sha Tin and Tai Po in Hong Kong. This included major interchanges at Ma Liu Shui and Island House. The project also included the construction of two new ferry terminals and large culverts through reclamation fill. Peter Fraenkel & Partners were appointed by the Hong Kong Government to prepare the preliminary documentation and detailed design for a new road between Sha Tin and Tai Po in the New Territories. The firm supervised construction of the contract, which at the time was the largest highways contract to be carried out in Hong Kong. |

Design of bridge on Sungai Kinabatangan in Sabah, East Malaysia as replacement for chain-operated ferry. The bridge is a three span steel Warren truss with a main span of 144 metres. Peter Fraenkel & Partners, in association with Malaysian consultants, were responsible for feasibility studies and preliminary and detailed design of four sections of trunk road in Sabah. The project which was financed by the World Bank involved many bridges, including the longest bridge in Sabah over the Kinabatangan river. The firm subsequently undertook the construction supervision of sections totalling 197km, much of the construction area being located in hilly and heavily forested terrain.

Specialist advisor for design of steel superstructure of Jalan Tun Razak viaduct in Kuala Lumpur. The bridge extends over 1km and provides an extra four traffic lanes above the existing carriageways of Jalan Tun Razak. It is the longest steel composite bridge structure in Malaysia. In 1997, Peter Fraenkel & Partners were commissioned, as specialist sub-consultants to a local firm of consulting engineers, to provide advice on the design and construction of a one kilometre long steel bridge. The bridge is continuous over single piers which were constructed in the central reserve of the existing highway. It provides an additional four lanes of traffic in an area of severe congestion in Kuala Lumpur.

Also involved in UK Department of Transport programmes for the inspection, assessment and rehabilitation of bridge structures. The majority of these projects have included both design and supervision of construction of bridges. The value of schemes undertaken for the Highways Agency amounted to some £120 million. |

Lead consultant for 450 metre span cable-stayed bridge on Chao Phya River linking Bangkok with Thonburi on expressway system. At the time of its construction this was the longest spanning cable-stayed bridge in the world. Peter Fraenkel & Partners, leading an international consortium of consulting engineers, were appointed by the Expressway and Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand to undertake a feasibility study and the detailed design of a 3.5 km section of the proposed Bangkok expressway, which included a crossing of the Chao Phya River. |
