Design and construction supervision of concrete paving extending to around one hectare for container storage in the port. The paving is constructed over an area of weak ground using lime stabilisation techniques and is subjected to heavy local loading from reach stackers and other container handling equipment.

In late 2006 Peter Fraenkel & Partners Ltd were contracted by The Port of Tilbury to undertake a major study into the provision of new riverfront container quays at the port, which would form part of its master plan for the long term development.

Freemantle Ports

Independent review of Fremantle Port Authority’s plans for new island container terminal in Cockburn Sound 15km south of the existing port on the Swan River at Fremantle.

Peter Fraenkel & Partners Ltd carried out an independent review for Fremantle Ports of long‑term development plans for container and general cargo facilities in a new outer harbour at Fremantle. This is to be located in the Cockburn Sound about 15 km south of the existing harbour.

Inter Island Ferry Terminals, Shetland

Design and project management of construction of three inter-island ferry terminals in Shetland. The terminals were designed for new Ro-Ro vehicular/passenger ferries and rapid turn-around of the vessels with push button operation of hydraulic linkspans situated alongside open-piled jetties.

Peter Fraenkel and Partners Ltd were responsible for the design and project management of three new ferry terminals for Shetland Islands Council who operate an inter-island ferry service throughout Shetland. By 1999 when the firm was appointed, the existing terminals at Toft and Ulsta on the Yell Sound route and at Oddsta on the island of Fetlar had reached the end of their useful lives and urgently needed replacing to cater for modern ferry vessels which the Council wished to introduce.

Supervision of emergency dredging of Durres Harbour for European Investment Bank. Project involved dredging within the harbour and along 5km of access channel and included removal of wrecks blocking access to berths.

Peter Fraenkel & Partners Ltd was responsible for supervision of emergency dredging of the port of Durres in Albania on a European Investment Bank project, in association with DIWI Consult GmbH of Germany.

Design of container quay at Tajung Priok along with container yard and back-up areas. Also responsible for specifications and procurement of container cranes and straddle carriers.

Peter Fraenkel & Partners were appointed as consultants by the Indonesian Directorate General of Sea Communications to review the master plan for Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, and to carry out a feasibility study for its development.
